Calculate personalized training heart rate zones from your age (and optionally resting heart rate).

How It Works

How Heart Rate Zone Calculator Works

Maximum heart rate is estimated as 220 minus your age, and training zones are set as percentages of that maximum. If you provide a resting heart rate, the calculator instead uses the Karvonen method, which factors in your heart rate reserve (the gap between resting and maximum) for a more personalized zone estimate.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does adding resting heart rate change the zones?
Two people with the same maximum heart rate can have very different fitness levels — the Karvonen method accounts for your heart rate reserve (max minus resting), which better reflects individual cardiovascular fitness than a flat percentage of max alone.
