Calculator Guides

Last updated: July 2026

Most of the time, one calculator is exactly what you need — you want a mortgage payment, you get a mortgage payment. But a handful of decisions in life aren't really a single-number question. Buying a house, planning retirement, getting your fitness numbers straight — these involve five or six smaller questions that all feed into each other, and it's easy to run one calculator, get a number, and not realize it depends on an assumption you set in a completely different tool three tabs ago.

These guides walk through those bigger decisions in the order you'd actually think about them, pointing to the specific calculator for each step and explaining how the numbers from one step should inform the next.

These guides link out to the individual calculators they cover, but you don't need to read a guide to use any single tool — the full list is browsable from the homepage, or searchable directly if you already know what you're after.
