How Length Converter Works
Every supported unit has a fixed conversion factor to meters (the metric base unit) — for example, 1 mile = 1,609.344 meters and 1 inch = 0.0254 meters. Your input value is first multiplied by its "from" unit's factor to get an equivalent value in meters.
That meters value is then divided by the "to" unit's factor to produce the converted result. This two-step approach (convert to meters, then convert from meters) lets the calculator convert cleanly between any two of the nine supported units without needing a unique formula for each possible pairing.
