Calculate the probability of rolling a specific total with any number of dice.
How It Works
How Dice Probability Calculator Works
Every possible combination of individual die results is counted, and the ones that add up to your target sum are identified — dividing that count by the total number of possible outcomes (the number of sides raised to the number of dice) gives the probability.
Worked Example
See It In Action
Rolling two standard 6-sided dice, a sum of 7 is the most common possible total — there are 6 ways to make it out of 36 total combinations, for a probability of about 16.7%.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is 7 the most likely sum with two six-sided dice?
More combinations add up to 7 (1+6, 2+5, 3+4, 4+3, 5+2, 6+1) than any other total — sums near the middle of the possible range always have more ways to form them than sums near the extremes (like 2 or 12, which only have one combination each).
