How Body Type Calculator Works
Somatotype classification here is BMI-based: a BMI under 18.5 is treated as ectomorph-leaning (naturally lean, fast metabolism), 18.5–25 as mesomorph-leaning (naturally athletic build), and above 25 as endomorph-leaning (a build that stores fat more readily) — a simplified approach compared to the original Sheldon somatotype system, which used detailed body measurements rather than BMI alone.
Frame size is estimated from your wrist-to-height ratio as a percentage, with different thresholds for men and women — a smaller ratio indicates a smaller-boned frame, and a larger ratio a larger one, following a commonly used clinical rule of thumb for frame size assessment.
Body shape (pear, apple, hourglass, inverted triangle, or rectangle) compares your shoulder width, waist, and hip measurements relative to each other, while waist-to-hip ratio is calculated separately as a general cardiovascular risk indicator, with different healthy thresholds for men (under 0.90) and women (under 0.80).
