How Speed Calculator Works

The calculator applies the most basic motion formula: speed = distance ÷ time. Whatever unit you enter distance in (miles, kilometers, meters), the result is expressed as that same unit "per hour" for every hour of travel time entered.

Because the formula only uses total distance and total time, it returns average speed over the whole trip — it cannot account for stops, traffic, or variable speed along the way. For that, you would need speed data at each segment of the journey.
