Remove password protection from a PDF you know the password for, so you can open, edit, or print it freely — processed entirely in your browser.

How It Works

How Unlock PDF Works

Unlike most tools on this site, PDF unlocking runs entirely client-side using PDF.js and PDF-lib — your file and password are never uploaded to a server.

PDF.js opens the encrypted PDF using the password you provide, decrypting its contents in-browser. PDF-lib then rebuilds a new PDF from those decrypted pages with no encryption applied, which you can then download.

Because this process requires the correct password to decrypt the file, it only removes protection from PDFs you can already open — it is not a password-cracking or recovery tool.

Worked Example

See It In Action

A bank statement PDF that prompts for a password every time you open it can be uploaded here with that same password entered once — the download you get afterward opens instantly with no password prompt.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?
No — unlocking happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The PDF and password never leave your device, which is why this tool has no server-side "processing" step.
Can this tool crack a password I don't know?
No. You must enter the correct password to open and decrypt the file — this tool removes protection from PDFs you already have legitimate access to, it does not attempt to guess or break unknown passwords.
What if I enter the wrong password?
The tool will show an error, since PDF.js cannot decrypt the file without the exact correct password. Double-check for typos, extra spaces, or case sensitivity.
